No one enters a marriage thinking their marriage will end, but the reality is that more than 50% of marriages end before death do us part. If it happens to you, as frightening and world-altering as it is, you will get through it, and we will help you.

"Uncontested" vs. "Contested" Divorce in New York

Divorces in New York don’t require consent. It doesn't matter if your spouse agrees to divorce. Conversely, just because a spouse agrees to get divorced and you generally are on the same page with most issues does not mean you have an “uncontested” divorce.

An “Uncontested Divorce” is a rare bird. This means that you and your spouse have fully resolved each and every issue pertaining to your marriage in a written, executed agreement. If you are able to reach such an agreement, you are amongst the lucky few who get to bypass the divorce process and merely submit paperwork to the court for a Judge to sign-off on. We easily and expeditiously offer these services for families who have already resolved their matters but still need that golden Judgment of Divorce.

However, if you’re not part of the select group of fortunates who have an uncontested divorce, do not panic. You, like most of our clients (and most divorcing spouses generally!), still have the law on your side to help protect you in a “Contested Divorce”. As overwhelming as it might seem at the get-go, you will feel lighter and happier as you take each meaningful step towards the finish line with us there to guide you through the process.
